A day after the media dubbed “Frankenstorm” pounded the Atlantic seaboard into a soggy mess Metro authorities have announced that they will resume public transportation service starting at 2PM.
Metrorail and Metrobuses will be running on a Sunday schedule starting at 2 p.m. Metro expects to resume normal service schedules, including rush hour service, on Wednesday.
MetroAccess service will remain suspended Tuesday and is expected to resume Wednesday.
WMATA said earlier that its decision to reopen would hinge on damage assessment, which includes inspections of tracks, bridges, aerial structures, stations and facilities. Service would resume “when it is safe to do so,” WMATA officials said.
Monday was the first time since Hurricane Isabel in 2003 that Metro suspended all service.
